Sexual harassment is one of the most contentious issues in the workplace. Laws exist to protect employees from unwelcome advances or remarks, but the subjective nature of intent and interpretation of such behavior continues to bedevil both managers and employees.
Two experts in this area, trainer Linda Garrett and attorney Brandon Blevins, offer a training video designed to lead managers through this minefield of emotional issues. Using various scripted scenarios, viewers can observe various incidents and interpret for themselves whether the behavior shown is sexual harassment or something more innocent (or both). Our experts will then analyze the scenes, dissecting the comments and behavior, and offering their opinions in a legal context. The scenes are varied among several different employment settings – medical, manufacturing, academic, and corporate – to provide the widest possible context.
The hosts also clarify the two different forms of sexual harassment recognized by the courts, quid-pro-quo and hostile work environment. They offer commentary on well-intentioned behavior which might lead to awkward interaction or worse, such as compliments, hugging, the limits of joking, and how dating policies among employees can complicate matters.
Managers will benefit from a clearer understanding of the intent of sexual harassment laws and will find themselves better equipped to deal with situations in their own work environment, thanks to the information provided in this video.
A Trainer’s Guide ($29.95) is available separately from the video, outlining a thorough sexual harassment workshop for participants. Also included are sign-in sheets, evaluations and certificates of attendance.
